Dining in and around East Northport – Nina’s

May 27, 2009 · 4 Comments

I haven’t posted here in ages, but I’ve been prompted to by a comment by “Anonymous” ridiculing me for misspelling “quesadilla.” Evidently, the implied claim is that if one doesn’t spell the name of the food correctly, their opinions about its taste and price are to be held in question.  I’m fine with that.

I’ll add this, however.  I haven’t been back to El Ranchito, and I won’t be surprised when it closes.  I wish them the best, but if I’m going to dine in a hole-in-the wall, I want fair food at a good price.  I don’t want authentic below-average-tasting food at prices demanded by far better restaurants.  So, throw your barbs!  Have your fun!  The party will be over for El Ranchito very soon.  No doubt.

Recently, we’ve taken to dining at Nina’s pizza on Main Street in Northport.  My wife and I really like this place.  It is a small restaurant that does delivery and take-out, but their dining room is fairly well decorated and arranged.  Their service is slow and choppy, as their wait-staff is split about 90/10 between takeout and the tables.  Still, the prices and quality more than compensate for the service.

There are three things we like about Nina’s.  First, the pizza is good (and not just for the price).  We’ve ordered Sicilian-style pizza two times and their thin crust once.  We’ve been very pleased each time.  Their sausage is well spiced with fennel seed.  They don’t cake their pizza with cheese; in fact, they strike a great balance of cheese to sauce.  Their sauces are very tasty , with chunky tomatoes that hold their sauce and the flavor of garlic.  Everything tastes fresh.  Second, they serve beer.  Unfortunately, their only domestic beer is Bud product, which means I won’t drink it.  Budweiser is undrinkable swill.  Third, their prices are very fair.  A large pizza with drinks comes in less than $20.  That’s a good price for a meal for three people, and with plenty to take home.

Its funny how u talk about the restaurant closing . When they have a really good restaurant going on . The restaurant can’t satisfy everyone. 1 customer that doesn’t like it doesn’t mean everyone is not going to like it.

Okay, let’s be honest. Someone affiliated with El Ranchito clearly Googled their restaurant name and found, unhappily, my review. Now, this person is posing as several different people commenting on my rarely-visited blog in order to pump up the restaurant.

I’m entitled to my opinion. I thought the food was below average, and too pricey. If others think otherwise, then perhaps my pallet is no good. Fine. I hope you do fine. I suspect you’d do better if you spent your time cooking and less time brow-beating your detractors on the internet.

Not really just a regular customer. Funny how you think I’m affiliated to them but if you didn’t like the food you are entitled to comment on them as you like both don’t put their name on every review you make

I think you may have a faulty “pallet” (chuckle). I’ve eaten at pizza Nina’s more than once, and it was merely passable. I made the mistake of ordering spaghetti & meatballs (to go) once, as they were the only place open during a bad snow this past winter: it was the worst garbage I have ever been served. The “pasta” was overcooked to the point of it being a glutenous paste, and the meatballs blew. I should have returned this “meal”, but I wasn’t about to head back out into the snow. Lesson learned, don’t try anything other than their pizza.
