GOP Recruits Absurdly Rich, Represents Average Person.

November 26, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I’ve been away for obvious reasons, and while away I’ve neglected my blog. Home repair has been supplanted by political rantings. How can one resist, however, the previous story about Bush’s insistence that wounded soldiers return their signing bonuses? I couldn’t, so I hope you will forgive me for indulging.

I’m on the road right now, so I’m checking in from a hotel. As I perused the morning’s news I happened by this terrific story about the Grand Ol’ Party. Turns out that in their efforts to represent the average person, they’ve decided upon a strategy of encouraging very rich people to run for office. I don’t know how this makes them unique from either of the two major parties, unless they are approaching the absurdly rich.

Now, before you go jumping to conclusions, you all need to know that I understand how downtrodden the absurdly rich are. First of all, they are Madison’s minority – worthy of protection from the vulgar masses. Right? Plus, they are always being scrutinized. Can you name one television program that focuses on anything other than the ways of the upper-class? I can’t. Imagine turning on the television and seeing you and your bourgeoisie friends scrutinized once more. It must be terrible. Certainly, that is the reason why 25 members of Congress are worth more than $50 million. They need to defend themselves. Their feelings have been hurt.

And heck, considering the party structure and working-class access to its upper-echelons have been all but destroyed by the lazy rubes who run this country, who is left to run America but the absurdly rich? They are just picking up our slack once again. Moreover, I can’t name one billionaire in Congress, which is pathetic. It never ought to be that way. How will they be looked after? Who will protect their interests from the evil scaley monsters that emerge in the innocuous-seeming forms of S-CHIP legislation or No Child Left Behind funding?
